Kids In Need Foundation Backpack Challenge-July 2017

Sixteen million children across the U.S. come from families struggling with extreme poverty. Recent studies show when kids have school supplies of their own, their grades and classroom behavior improve, their self-esteem strengthens and their attitudes towards school and learning improve. During the eight-week PRMI Backpack Challenge, PRMI team members across the country raised over $89,000 for the Kids In Need Foundation to provide more than 3,500 backpacks full of school supplies to students attending Title I schools in the U.S. Here are few highlights:

  • During the eight-week PRMI Backpack Challenge, the Scottsdale Branch raised more than $5,000 for the Kids In Need Foundation. Branch members delivered 202 backpacks and 180 class supply packs to students Yavapai Elementary in Scottsdale.
  • Team members in Hawaii raised more than $14,000 for the Kids In Need Foundation during the PRMI Backpack Challenge. Their generous donations provided 500 backpacks to Kalihi Waena Elementary and more than 60 backpacks to Makaha Elementary during the PRMI Week of Giving.
  • 695 students at Cornerstone Elementary now have the supplies they need to succeed in the classroom because of the $17,400 donation made by the Great Lakes Division. Along with their donation to the Kids In Need Foundation, the division gave each teacher a gift to express their gratitude.
  • During the eight-week Backpack Challenge, PRMI’s corporate office raised more than $21,000 for the Kids In Need Foundation. Team members delivered more than 840 backpacks for Jackson Elementary and Rose Park Elementary in Salt Lake City. The donations provided backpacks for each student at both schools.
  • Following the PRMI Backpack Challenge, the Mid-Atlantic Division donated 589 backpacks full of new school supplies to Padonia International Elementary during PRMI’s Week of Giving. The division raised more than $14,900 for the Kids In Need Foundation during the eight-week fundraising campaign.
